ACADEMIC PHYSIATRIST - The Syracuse VA Medical Center is host to a newly constructed, state-of-the-art Spinal Cord Injury Center. The Center is expanding from 20 to 30 inpatient beds, hiring approximately 70 additional staff, developing a comprehensive outpatient clinic, and providing a full range of medical and rehabilitation services.

The SCI Center is seeking an ACGME-approved SCI Medicine fellowship trained and board eligible/certified physician. Board eligible/certified certification in PM&R is required. The successful applicant will participate in Home Based Primary Care, Telehealth, and all outpatient services. Prior work or training experience in a SCI Center is also required. Physician will practice clinically at the VA Medical Center and hold an academic appointment with the State University of New York (SUNY) Upstate Medical University (UMU).

The position involves the day-to-day medical care of persons with SCI and disorders in both inpatient and outpatient settings, inclusive of both traumatic and non-traumatic SCI, multiple sclerosis, and ALS. It also includes the supervision of SUNY medical students, residents, and fellows, as well as nurse practitioners. The Syracuse VA Medical Center is a dynamic teaching hospital that is highly regarded in the Upstate New York region and within the VA nationally. It is closely affiliated with and physically adjacent to the SUNY Upstate Medical University (UMU). Applicants must possess a current and unrestricted license in any State, must qualify for an academic appointment at SUNY UMU, and should have excellent diagnostic and interpersonal skills, a commitment to team building, and the overall aptitude for leadership, educational development, and research. A SUNY academic appointment will be conferred in accordance with academic rank commensurate with quality and length of experience.
