Newly Established School of Nursing at University of California, Irvine

Seeking Applications and Nominations for Nursing Faculty Candidates with Research and Teaching Experience

Multiple Leadership Opportunities available for qualified candidates including for Associate Dean of Academic/Student Affairs and Program Directors

Founded in 2017, the Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing at the University of California, Irvine (UC Irvine) seeks stellar applicants for tenured positions at the Associate or Full Professor levels. Applicants must have a research-focused doctorate (e.g., PhD, DNSc) in nursing or another health-related field (health psychology, public health, etc.) and a nationally/internationally-recognized program of research. Applicants must have a strong record of NIH and other extramural research funding and a distinguished publication record.

We are particularly interested in individuals with programs of research in the following areas: Neurosciences/Neurobehavioral Disorders, Mental Health, Big Data/Informatics, Population Health, and Integrative Health.

Candidates must be able to mentor students at all levels (BS, MS, PhD) in conducting excellent research and developing an evidence-based practice. Successful candidates will also be responsible for teaching at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels. If so desired, candidates will also have the ability to continue their own clinical practice at the state-of-the-art, multidisciplinary UC Irvine Health Gottschalk Medical Plaza.

Located in sunny Southern California, UCI is 15 minutes from the beach, and a short drive up or down the coast to Los Angeles or San Diego. Irvine is a great place to raise a young family, with public schools that are consistently ranked among the best in the country.

Incoming faculty will be eligible to participate in any benefits as offered by the University of California, which includes, health, dental, vision, life, disability, and multiple retirement options including and outstanding pension plan. Compensation offerings will be competitive and commensurate with previous experience.

Incoming faculty will also have access to affordable on-campus housing in University Hills at rates less than the market average. This tremendous offering affords faculty opportunity to either walk or bike to work, and eliminates any cost of living and traffic concerns. Candidates will also receive a generous start up package in which money can be allocated toward the purchase of a home.

UCI was recently the recent recipient of two very generous gifts….

In 2016, the William and Sue Gross Family Foundation donated $40 million to establish a school of nursing, which was formally approved in 2017, making it the newest nursing school in the prestigious University of California system. The UC Irvine Sue & Bill Gross School of Nursing is distinguished by its community-based approach to promoting, improving, and sustaining health and wellness throughout the community. The school is ranked among the top 50 in research funding, and dedicated to advancing evidence-based clinical practice and the discipline of Nursing through scholarly research, education, and practice.

Earlier this year, the University of California, Irvine received the largest gift in its history, a $200 million donation from Susan and Henry Samueli to name the first of its kind Susan and Henry Samueli College of Health Sciences, which will position UCI as a new leader in population health, patient care, education, and research. The school of nursing will be one of four academic units in the College of Health Sciences, including the Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, and Population Health, creating many opportunities for interdisciplinary research.

Founded in 1965, UCI is the youngest member of the prestigious Association of American Universities. The campus has produced three Nobel laureates, and is known for its academic achievement, premier research, and anteater mascot.

The UCI campus is also home to a renowned academic medical center and highly-ranked, collaborative schools of Engineering, Computer and Informational Sciences, and Biological Sciences. With approximately 30,000 undergraduate and graduate students, more than 1,150 regular ranks faculty and 9,700 staff, UC Irvine is one of the most dynamic campuses in the University of California system.

The University of California, Irvine is an Equal Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, protected veteran status, or other protected categories covered the UC nondiscrimination policy.
