Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, a major teaching hospital of Harvard Medical School, is undertaking a national search to identify candidates for the position of Chief Academic Officer. The successful candidate must be a senior physician-scientist with deep knowledge and experience in the research and training missions of academic medical centers. The Chief Academic Officer reports to the CEO of the Medical Center. She/he is responsible for strategic planning, resource allocation, research prioritization, technology transfer, industry relations, and faculty development in leading a large and diverse basic, translational, and clinical research portfolio. In partnership with the Vice-President for Education and the Department Chairs, the Chief Academic Officer also oversees all clinical residency and fellowship programs and research training programs at the Medical Center.The Chief Academic Officer serves on the Council of Academic Deans at Harvard Medical School and is responsible for supporting all appointments/promotions at the professorial level for faculty at the Medical Center. The successful candidate must qualify for appointment as Full Professor in an appropriate department at Harvard Medical School.
