VA Boston Healthcare System, Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service
The VA Boston Healthcare System (VABHS) is seeking a Board Certified full-time Physiatrist whose primary responsibility will be to organize and direct the Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation Service (PM&RS) of this multi-campus institution including a 5-bed CARF accredited inpatient rehabilitation program. The VABHS is an academic medical center affiliated with Harvard Medical School (HMS), Boston University School of Medicine (BUSM) and Tufts University School of Medicine. The Chief of PM&RS will hold an academic appointment at Harvard Medical School and a clinical appointment at the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital. Unrestricted licensure (in any state) is required and you must be a US citizen.
PM&RS offers a comprehensive approach to rehabilitation across the continuum of inpatient and outpatient care. In addition to running extensive outpatient clinics and an inpatient unit, PM&RS provides support to patients with neurological disorders, traumatic and non-traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury and dysfunction, orthopedic disorders, cardiac disease, pulmonary disease, blindness, and complex medical and psychiatric disorders.
The program is fully staffed at over 73 full and part-time staff, comprising staff physiatrists, physical therapy, occupational therapy, and a residency training program affiliated with Tufts University School of Medicine. VA Boston is one of the largest training sites amongst VA medical centers, and as a result, you will have the opportunity to be involved with a large number of medical students, PA students, and fellows. The development of a research program funded by the VA and/or NIH is strongly encouraged.
VABHS is the major tertiary referral center for Veterans from throughout New England. VABHS provides the full spectrum of inpatient, residential, and outpatient medical-surgical and mental health services across three major campuses (Brockton, West Roxbury, and Jamaica Plain), five community-based outpatient clinics (CBOCs), and several residential rehabilitation facilities. VABHS is the largest recipient of VA research funds in the nation and ranks among the top VA facilities in total research funding.
Salary is competitive and based on qualifications and experience. Excellent benefits include 26 vacation days, 13 sick days/accumulates without limit, 10 paid holidays, generous retirement package including 401K plan with employer matching contributions, employer provided malpractice insurance, and multiple health and life insurance options.
Recruitment/Relocation incentives will be authorized for highly qualified candidates.
VABHS is an Equal Opportunity Employer and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability status, protected veteran status, or any other characteristic protected by law.
