JOB SUMMARY:

 

Responsible for overseeing and coordinating growth and development of precision health programs within research and for achieving organizational, administrative, budget, and financial objectives in these programs.

 

Responsible for strategic planning and growth of research in the Northeast region including Forty Fort and the School of Medicine.

 

Responsible for strategic planning and growth of research in the Rockville/Bethesda locations.

 

Develops strategies for, and manages major new scientific recruitments in all regions and locations.

 

Ensures that research goals and objectives are aligned with the organizations broader mission and vision and with departmental needs.

 

Provides senior leadership and vision within Geisinger Health System on strategies for growth in research.

 

Directly supervises Investigators and Represents research to Geisinger Leadership, Board, and external stakeholders in absence of and at request of the Chief Scientific Officer.

 

Associate Chief Scientific Officer reports directly to the Chief Scientific Officer

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

1. Responsible for overall planning, operations, and growth of precision health programs within research.

 

2. Collaborates with senior executives in development and execution of vision.

 

3. Establishes and is responsible for program and financial targets.

 

4. Creates an environment to foster grants submission and publications among investigators, collaborating clinician investigators, and staff.

 

5. Collaborates with Department Directors in advancing the quality and quantity of externally funded research.

 

6. Design and write grant proposals to support innovative research in precision medicine.

 

7. Build collaborative research programs with other System entities.

 

8. Establishes a strategic plan and executes on the plan for research at the School of Medicine.

 

9. Build collaborative research programs with external non-profit, governmental, and industry partners.

 

10. Prepare articles for journal publication and make presentations at national meetings on findings from program research projects.

 

11. Represent the programs to the community, local and national organizations

 

12. Participate as a member of the senior leadership teams to provide vision and guidance in evaluative research, including health services research, outcomes of care and cost benefit analysis.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Demonstrated leadership, interpersonal, and oral and written communication skills commensurate with the demands of the position.

Demonstrated organizational, staff and financial management skills.

Demonstrated ability to grow research programs

Extensive experience in obtaining research funding from a variety of sources, international recognition for research, and a strong track record of successful research. Diverse research experience.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

 

PhD or MD/DO with a minimum of 15 years research and management experience in a relevant discipline.

 

Previous executive leadership experience

 

Demonstrated managerial and strategic planning experience at the director level of a research enterprise.

 

Demonstrated academic record in research and teaching, including success in obtaining extramural research grants, peer reviewed publications and a positive national reputation in the field of precision health and genomic research.
