DEAN, YONG LOO LIN SCHOOL OF MEDICINE, NATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF SINGAPORE

The National University of Singapore (NUS) invites applications for the post of Dean, Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine. We are looking for an internationally respected and eminent medical professional who is a visionary and pragmatic academic leader, prepared and able to lead the School (NUS Medicine) to greater heights of achievement and excellence. Established in 1905, NUS Medicine is the first institution of higher learning in Singapore and the genesis of the National University of Singapore. The NUS is Singapore's flagship university and offers a global approach to education and research, with a focus on Asian perspectives and expertise. The School offers one of the finest undergraduate medical programmes in the Asia-Pacific region and enjoys international recognition. The Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2016 by Subject and the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) World University Rankings by Subject 2017 list NUS Medicine as a leading medical school in Asia. Currently, the School admits 300 students annually to the MBBS degree programme. Its principal missions are to educate and train the next generation of healthcare professionals, and foster research that will help to advance the practice of medicine. The 18 NUS Medicine departments in the basic sciences and clinical specialties work closely with the Centre for Medical Education, the Centre for Biomedical Ethics, the Centre for Healthcare Simulation, as well as Singapore's restructured public hospitals to ensure that teaching and research are aligned and relevant to the country's healthcare needs. The School is also a founding institutional member of the National University Health System. Formed in 2008, the NUHS currently encompasses the health science disciplines of the NUS (Medicine, Nursing, Dentistry and Public Health), the National University Cancer Institute, the National University Heart Centre, the National University Centre for Oral Health, the National University Hospital, the Ng Teng Fong General Hospital, and the Jurong Community Hospital. The group also includes six primary care polyclinics, with a seventh scheduled to open in 2020, three public-private primary care clinics, and a new campus in development on the grounds of the former Alexandra Hospital. These integrated capabilities and enhanced capacity enable the NUHS to deliver medical and dental education that is geared to meeting national requirements, while providing innovative treatments to patients through groundbreaking research. The remit of the Dean of the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine has thus expanded to encompass leadership in academic and clinical excellence as well as impactful research in an academic healthcare system setting. The incumbent is also expected to cultivate and maintain strong local and international alliances and strategize and implement long-term plans for the School.
