Academic Pediatric Hospitalist - Duke Children's Hospital

Duke Pediatrics is pleased to announce an open Academic Pediatric Hospitalist position in the Division of Hospital Medicine at Duke University / Duke Children's Health Center.

Duke Pediatric Hospital Medicine has grown rapidly from its inception in 2007. We have eight full-time faculty members, an advanced practice provider, and two nurse clinicians to cover the following areas:

  • Two inpatient teams
  • An inpatient-based, innovative, and highly successful Complex Care Service.
  • A children's procedural sedation unit (coverage shared with colleagues from pediatric emergency medicine)

We follow a traditional teaching model where residents cover all patients. Pediatric Hospital Medicine Faculty have no primary care, newborn nursery, acute care or PICU responsibilities and are not required to be in-house overnight.  Night call is taken from home by phone.

The ideal candidate will embrace the missions of academic medicine by possessing a passion for patient care, demonstrated teaching skills, and an interest in scholarly efforts.  Duke University School of Medicine's national reputation provides our faculty with high quality academic opportunities and resources. Our faculty currently are engaged in substantive projects in the areas of patient safety, quality improvement, complex care, health disparities, medical education, physician resilience, and telemedicine.  The Division is currently working to develop a pediatric hospital medicine fellowship program.

Duke Children's Health Center serves as both a primary care facility and a referral center for patients from North Carolina and throughout the Southeast. The Department of Pediatrics includes nearly 200 faculty, 72 residents, and 65 subspecialty fellows.

Duke is committed to recruiting, training, and developing a diverse workforce representative of the population we serve, and we welcome and support individuals from backgrounds historically underrepresented in medicine.

The Greater Triangle area of Raleigh, Durham, and Chapel Hill is family-friendly, while offering young singles many options for an active outdoor and social life. The Research Triangle Park, a globally prominent high-tech research and development center conceived around the three academic centers in the region, has made the area culturally diverse, economically resilient and nationally recognized as a great place to live and work. To learn more about the Duke and Greater Triangle communities, visit: http://community.duke.edu/
