The Division Chief, General Internal Medicine, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s and Mount Sinai West (MSSLW), will be responsible for all strategic, administrative, clinical, educational, and research aspects of the Division. With a devoted and innovative faculty working in a diverse group of faculty practices on the Upper West Side of Manhattan and three of New York City’s thriving Federally Qualified Health Clinics (FQHC), the Division Chief will embrace this unique opportunity in support of the mission of the hospitals, the Primary Care Institute, and the Mount Sinai Health System.

The Division Chief reports to the Chair, Department of Medicine, MSSLW, while maintaining excellent collaborative engagement of the Division of General Internal Medicine (DGIM) Chief for the Mount Sinai Health System.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Administration of the Division: The chief is responsible for the overall management of the DGIM including:

  • Development of strategic plans and goals for the Division in alignment with those of the Department of Medicine and the System;
  • Oversight of all financial, operational, and personnel issues within the Division;
  • Oversight of and responsibility for the faculty, including recruitment of new faculty;
  • Advance the national reputation of the Division through scholarship, education, and innovation in the clinical environment, including as this relates to the broad System emphasis on population health management.

2. Clinical Responsibilities: The Division has a long-standing commitment to the care of the communities in the catchment of the two MSSLW hospitals. The Division Chief will:

  • Oversee clinical practice development, including the ongoing strategic growth of the three Sinai Doctors Primary Care practices in the Upper West Side and West Harlem;
  • Further development of an integrative patient-centered outcomes-oriented practice in close coordination with population health initiatives developed by the Health System;
  • Support the community-based initiatives in the health care delivery to underserved communities, in particular those in the MSSL catchment;
  • Maintain and further the goal of providing outstanding care for all patients;

3. Education and Mentoring Responsibilities:  The Division Chief will:

  • Bring an established record of mentorship at all levels including the ability to foster the growth of both the Clinician-Educator and the Clinician-Researcher;
  • Develop new and innovative educational goals consistent with the objectives of the System GME and Department of Medicine;
  • Coordinate with the Director for the Internal Medicine Residency Program to maintain an educational program fully compliant with ABIM, ACGME, and Residency Review Committee requirements;
  • Support the maturation of the newly-established Primary Care Track in the Residency Training Program.

Qualified candidates will be Board Certified in Internal Medicine with preference given to those with advanced degrees. Substantial experience in clinical practice development, mentorship, and faculty management are highly desired.  A nuanced  understanding of, and record of success, in the changing landscape of health care and its direct impact on primary care outcomes is a must.

Experience and achievement suitable for faculty appointment at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai at the Associate Professor or Professor rank.

The Department of Medicine is the largest academic department at MSSLW and the Division of General Internal Medicine is one of the largest divisions in the department.
