Home to Hilo International Airport, Hilo is considered the gateway to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, which is located 45 minutes south. This northeastern coast of Hawaii Island is the wetter side of the island and where you can find Wailuku River State Park, Liliuokalani Gardens, and Panaewa Rainforest Zoo. Downtown Hilo is vibrant and family friendly with museums, art galleries, local unique shopping, and the Hilo Farmers Market. Living in Hilo is affordable and is considered one of the best places in the world for fresh fish, grass fed beef, and tropical fruits and vegetables.
