The Department of Pediatrics of the Loma Linda University School of Medicine is seeking an academic nephrologist to head the division of pediatric nephrology. The Pediatric Nephrology division currently has four Pediatric Nephrologists and a nurse practitioner. The candidate should be Board Certified in Pediatric Nephrology, and should be capable of directing the division in clinical services and research.

The division provides comprehensive services in all aspects of renal care. This includes general nephrology, peritoneal and hemodialysis, renal transplantation, acute care nephrology including CRRT and apheresis, and consultation services to PICU, Cardiac ICU, NICU, Bone marrow transplant, and pediatric inpatient units.

It offers consultative services to the 25-bed PICU, 60-bed NICU, 15-bed Pediatric cardiac ICU, and pediatric inpatient units. All modalities of dialysis are used. Pediatric renal clinics use a team approach with a renal dietician, renal social worker, renal nurse practitioner, and a nephrology nurse specialist to provide comprehensive care. The ESRD program at Loma Linda Children’s hospital has 36-40 children on dialysis distributed between Hemo and peritoneal dialysis.

We average about 10 transplants per year. The division offers state-of-the-art care to children with renal diseases in the inland Southern California vicinity. Loma Linda University Medical Center and Children’s Hospital is a tertiary care referral center for the Inland Empire that spans Riverside, San Bernardino, Inyo, and Mono Counties.

As the division head, the applicant’s duties will include providing clinical care to pediatric nephrology patients and teaching responsibilities for the Loma Linda University School of Medicine and pediatric residency program. The Applicant should be an excellent clinician and teacher, as Loma Linda Children’s hospital has a large residency program. There are 84 pediatric residents and 16 Med-Peds residents that come through the nephrology program. The applicant should have administrative experience in running a pediatric dialysis and transplant program. He/she should have a track record in clinical or bench research, and be capable of mentoring research in the division.

For the qualified candidate, this is the opportunity to provide leadership and to shape the future of the Division of Pediatric Nephrology. This position will provide opportunities to further develop the delivery of these specialized services through clinical base growth and program development.
