North Central Regional Medical Director, Addiction Services

Division of Addiction Medicine

This is an opportunity to join a growing physician group practice of addiction medicine specialists at a large integrated delivery system at the cutting edge of population health, and integrated care.

Addiction is a multifaceted and chronic disease requiring integrated resources to manage. This physician role will have direct practice responsibilities and oversight responsibilities for an integrated Medication Assisted Therapy (MAT) clinics in Geisinger’s North Central Region. This region includes Lycoming County and the City of Williamsport. The role will manage the care team involved in MAT, provide education and oversite for patient care, and collaborate with the System Medical Director for Addiction Services on the continued development of outpatient addiction services, and integrated models of addiction treatment

Geisinger is an integrated delivery system, bringing all of these resources to implement our vision to employ them in a manner that improves population level outcomes for patients with a substance use disorder. Becoming a member of the Geisinger addiction services team will provide an opportunity to lead and develop the programmatic development of addiction services.  

The position will report to Geisinger’s System Addiction Medicine Medical Director

Qualifications:

BC/BE in Internal Medicine, Psychiatry or Family Medicine required. Buprenorphine waiver for 275 patients a year is required.

Graduate of accredited Medical School with a current medical license for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and current Buprenorphine waiver for DEA.

Must hold at least one of the following:

·       Current Addiction certification from American Board of Preventative Medicine

·       Current certification by American Board of Addiction Medicine

·       Current Addiction Psychiatry accreditation by American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology

Program Development. The Regional Medical Director of Addiction Services will be provided with dedicated time to identify needs and develop addiction programming. This included inpatient (acute care services, consult services, ED presence, and local partnerships), outpatient (further development of integrated MAT model, other outpatient offerings)

Academics is a strong focus within Geisinger and the expectation is that this person would be a leader in breaking down barriers and stigma around addiction, system wide. Includes education of clinical team at Medication Assisted Treatment clinic sites as well as opportunities to train medical students, residents, post-doctoral candidates, and fellows in our ACGME accredited psychiatry residency program, now in its second year. We provide well-supported educational programming and CME including weekly Division Grand Rounds, case conferences, and journal club.
