The VCU Department of Internal Medicine Rising Scholar Program is a unique opportunity to obtain dedicated training in Clinical and Translational Research, while progressing in your academic career in Internal Medicine and Subspecialties and improving clinical skills. The program is designed for individuals who are BC or BE in Internal Medicine, and will last 24 months with a start date of July 1, 2018. The program will combine formal training within the VCU Master of Science Program in Clinical and Translational Research with hands-on research experience under the tutelage of a dedicated mentor. The Scholars will be appointed as Clinical Instructor of Medicine within the Internal Medicine, and will work 14-16 hours per week (averaged over four weeks) within the Hospitalist Night Medicine Program. As part of the program and as Internal Medicine faculty, the scholars will receive an excellent benefit package, a competitive salary commensurate to the clinical load, a stipend for CME and other scholarly activities, and a grant to support an approved research project. At the end of the program, trainees are expected to be competitive for appointment to an Assistant Professor Faculty position and for a KL2 or K23 NIH training grant. Research opportunities are available in the following areas: Allergy/Immunology, Cardiology, Endocrinology, Hepatology, Hospital Medicine, Oncology, and Pulmonary/Critical Care. Qualifications: The successful candidate must be a Physician that is Board Certified or Board Eligible in Internal Medicine, with prior research experience and interest in a career in Academic Medicine. Demonstrated experience working in and fostering a diverse faculty, staff, and student environment or commitment to do so as a faculty member at VCU.
