Job Details
Practice Description
The Hospitalist Program provides a core and essential service to Marshfield Clinic-Marshfield Center and Marshfield Medical Center. The scope of patients on the Hospitalist Service is broadly ranging and includes medical consultation for surgical and surgical subspecialty patients. The scope does not include Critical ICU admissions.
Full-Time Inpatient Physician – The Hospitalist
A full-time new associate physician hospitalist is expected to work 195 shifts annually. The duration and timing of these shifts will vary. Each physician also participates in an emergency "backup" plan for increased service load or unexpected absences.
Daytime Hospital Coverage
Nine total physicians covering day shifts 0700-1700.
This group of physicians will round daily on their inpatients and admit in rotation with the medical education service.
Duration of day shift rotation will be 9 consecutive days and will include weekends.
Each 9 day rotation will start in an integrated fashion with the other daytime hospitalist services such that no more than two of the nine services start or end on the same day.
Continuity of care is expected during the 7 day shifts.
This model presumes an average daily census of 12-17 inpatients with approximately 2-4 new admissions or consults per day.
Nighttime Hospital Coverage
Four physicians covering the night shifts:
Two from 1600 to midnight
One from midnight to 0800
One from 1700 to 0100
Nighttime covering hospitalists will respond to cross-coverage issues and cover admissions.
These three nighttime hospitalists will accept admissions in concert and on a rotating basis with the medical teaching service.
Medical Education Responsibilities
Hospitalist may provide coverage for Medical Education Service.
Hospitalist may play integral role in inpatient medical consultative elective.
Backup Coverage
Scheduled backup for unanticipated staff illnesses or heavy patient census.
