The Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center (Fred Hutch) is soliciting applications for a dynamic, energetic, and visionary individual to serve as the Director of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation in the Clinical Research Division.

Fred Hutch, home of three Nobel Laureates, is an independent, nonprofit research institution dedicated to the development and advancement of biomedical research to eliminate cancer and other potentially fatal diseases. Recognized internationally for its pioneering work in hematopoietic cell transplantation, and immunotherapy, Fred Hutch provides a unique environment for conducting translational research and clinical care. Fred Hutch, the University of Washington School of Medicine, Seattle Children’s Hospital, and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance together comprise one of the 49 established NCI designated Comprehensive Cancer Centers and house vibrant research programs in cancer treatment, prevention and basic cancer biology. The Fred Hutch Clinical Research Division is internationally recognized for its leadership of the development of hematopoietic cell transplantation in adults and children, as well as for research excellence in cellular and antibody based immunotherapy for hematologic malignancies, solid tumors and pediatric cancers; infections and other complications of cancer treatment; biology of hematopoietic and other stem cells; gene therapy; human immunogenetics; and other novel approaches for the understanding and treatment of cancer. The Division also includes members with multi-disciplinary expertise who conduct translational research in a wide variety of solid-tumor malignancies.

As Director of Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplantation, the candidate will be responsible for setting the future vision of stem cell transplantation through a transdisciplinary research program that interfaces with programs in immunology, stem cell biology, and the malignancies and non malignant diseases that are treated with this modality. The candidate is expected to provide leadership and facilitate opportunities for junior scientists and physician scientists to develop and grow research programs within transplantation biology and transplantation immunology consistent with the overall direction and priorities within Hematopoietic Cell Transplantation. In addition, the candidate will be responsible for the identification and recruitment of new faculty members as necessary to work in areas of transplantation biology parallel to the strategic growth of transplant at Fred Hutch; organize, direct, and expand the clinical and research efforts for an established multidisciplinary team of clinicians and scientists currently performing allogeneic, autologous, and cord blood transplant. Furthermore, there will be opportunity to establish and grow a personal program of basic and translational research in hematopoietic cell transplant biology.

The ideal candidate should demonstrate leadership in transplantation biology and is expected to maintain and strengthen a tradition of productive collaboration, synergy and respect among a large faculty that includes physician-scientists and clinician-researchers. The successful candidate would hold a full-time faculty appointment at Full Member rank in the Clinical Research Division at Fred Hutch; and appointment as Professor without tenure in the Division of Medical Oncology at the University of Washington. Joint appointments in other Fred Hutch Divisions and University Departments can be administered as appropriate.

An MD or MD/PhD and board certification or equivalent training in medical oncology are required. This position is not eligible for J-1 Waiver sponsorship.

Our Cancer Center offers outstanding shared resources, active training programs for graduate students, clinical and postdoctoral fellows, and offers exceptional opportunities for scientific interactions with other investigators in the Seattle area. Additional information about Fred Hutch’s Clinical Research Division can be found at: http://www.fredhutch.org/en/labs/clinical.html.

Candidates will be asked to submit a curriculum vitae, research statement, leadership philosophy, and contact information for three references.

Applications will be considered until the position is filled.
