JOB SUMMARY:

The laboratory of Dr. Anne Moon in the Department of Molecular and Functional Genomics, Weis Center for Research, Geisinger Clinic is seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow. The research interests of our laboratory are to understand the functions of Fibroblast Growth Factors and Tbox proteins in development and disease.

Suitable candidates will be self-motivated, technically skilled, and interested in leading a project discovering the complex signaling networks that regulate aspects of cardiac and limb development relevant to human birth defects. This position offers the opportunity to participate in a dynamic research environment and employ state-of-the-art approaches to fundamental questions in developmental and molecular biology.

 

This training position provides opportunity for growth and development as an independent
investigator. The trainee will conduct a specific research project under the supervision of the Staff or Senior Scientist and provide intellectual and technical resources to the research program.

Directly accountable to the Staff/Senior Scientist.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Conducts laboratory experiments related to a specific research project.

*2. Gathers, summarizes, records, and interprets data obtained from research projects.

*3. Plans subsequent work with approval of the principal investigator.

*4. Reviews relevant literature to solve problems and contributes to manuscripts and
grants.

*5. Develops experimental and research protocols for the laboratory.

6. May instruct other members of the lab in area of expertise.

7. May present experimental results at Weis Center for Research or outside scientific venues.

8. May perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Potential to work independently and complete complex assignments.

Demonstrated teamwork skills.

Development of skills in scientific written, oral, and electronic communications related to requirements of the position such as manuscript writing and scientific presentations in meetings.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Ph.D. in biological, life or related sciences or M.D required.

·       Qualifications
Experience in developmental biology, use of animal models, molecular genetics, and molecular biology.

·       Experience mining RNA- and ChIP -seq data would be ideal.

·       Productivity during the graduate period must be evident.
