Cleveland Clinic, a distinguished academic healthcare system, announces its search for Chair of the Robert J. Tomsich Pathology & Laboratory Medicine Institute (RT-PLMI) which is a flagship program in our System. The Tomsich Pathology Laboratories touch virtually every patient in the Cleveland Clinic System and thousands of patients across the world. The Institute is often rated as one of the busiest laboratories in the country with approximately 1,500 dedicated employees and more than 21 million tests processed annually that serve patients at the Cleveland Clinic, Cleveland Clinic Laboratories, and Affiliated Hospitals. The RT-PLMI has about 90 physicians in 15 subspecialty surgical pathology areas within the Department of Pathology and six unique specialty areas within the Department of Laboratory Medicine. RT-PLMI is an active teaching center with 28 residents along with multiple fellowship programs. Duties and responsibilities of the new Chair will be to provide leadership for the Institute which will include oversight of general operations, organization, fiduciary matters, quality and safety, recruitment, retention, and mentoring of medical staff, administrators, educators, and researchers. The Chair is responsible for the extremely important academic and research mission of the Institute. Also essential will be leadership that assures CLIA standards are established and maintained throughout the System. The Institute Chair will be a physician leader with impressive credentials who reports to the Cleveland Clinic Chief of Staff and has the ability and desire to implement and support the strategic mission of the Cleveland Clinic Health System. The ideal candidate will be a servant leader with a record of excellence in clinical support activities, education, and scholarship as well as laudable experience in leadership, administration, mentoring, and program development.
