UPMC (the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center) seeks a highly qualified advanced heart failure/transplant cardiologist to serve as medical director of its advanced heart failure program, part of the section of heart failure and pulmonary hypertension.

UPMC has been a national and world leader in advanced heart failure treatment for decades, in particular mechanical circulatory support and cardiac transplantation. The program is primarily located at UPMC Presbyterian Shadyside hospital in the Oakland neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. Significant outreach efforts encompass much of Pennsylvania and portions of New York, West Virginia, Ohio and Maryland. The section currently employs seven cardiologists board-certified in advanced heart failure and transplant cardiology and three full time cardiothoracic surgeons. 

The medical director will join with surgical and pharmacological leaders to oversee and advance all aspects of the program including clinical growth, investigation, quality assurance, efficiency efforts and outreach. The position includes a busy clinical practice in both the inpatient and outpatient environment.

Qualified candidates are board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in Advanced Heart Failure and Transplant Cardiology. Candidates should have several years of faculty experience including clinical care, research and educational efforts. We offer a comprehensive and highly competitive salary and benefits package.
