The Division of Trauma, Surgical Critical Care, and Acute Care Surgery at Duke University in Durham, North Carolina is now accepting applications for a full-time academic trauma surgeon. Successful candidates will be board certified/board eligible in General Surgery with added certification in Surgical Critical Care. Fellowship training in Trauma or Acute Care Surgery and an emphasis on teaching and research (outcomes or the basic sciences) is required. Academic appointments will be commensurate with the candidate's academic record.
Selected candidates will be committed to research and training of residents and fellows in trauma, critical care and acute care surgery. Protected time for research is negotiable. Team spirit and the ability to interact with a multitude of specialists and subspecialists are a must. Our group prides itself on communication and delivering expert and timely care to all patients regardless of background or affliction. Duke University Medical Center, a 1000 bed teaching hospital, completed an expansion project in 2013, adding over 150 beds to its critical care towers and bringing the total operative theatres to 50. Duke is an ACS verified Level I Adult Trauma Center with a commitment to pediatric trauma with over 2,600 trauma activations a year. As a leading academic and tertiary care facility, we are also a leading referral center for trauma, acute care surgery, transplant, cardiothoracic and neurosurgical surgery.
