The Duke University Department of Medicine, Division of Nephrology seeks two board certified physician scientists in transplant nephrology at the Assistant, Associate or Professor level to join its expanding kidney transplant program. Successful applicants will join a rapidly growing kidney transplant program in the midst of converting to a vertically integrated Transplant Center model that is strongly supported by the Duke School of Medicine, the Duke Health System, Duke Hospital and the Division of Nephrology. Last year, Duke transplanted 150 kidney alone and 15 dual transplants involving a kidney, representing 40% growth over the past 5 years. Our goal is to grow the program to over 200 kidney transplants per year over the next 3-5 years.
We seek team players and leaders, who will split time between clinical practice and clinical or basic science research. Applicants should have completed a transplant nephrology fellowship or practiced as a transplant nephrologist, and must have a well-established record of original research publication and extramural research funding. Applicants should have strong clinical skills, including experience with all modes of renal replacement therapy, native and transplant kidney biopsy, and management of immunosuppression and its complications. Educational duties include clinical supervision and teaching of house staff, and participation in didactic sessions, transplant conferences, and meetings. Applicants must have an active research portfolio that will support at least 50% of their professional effort. The successful applicant will have the opportunity to fill important leadership role(s) within the kidney and/or solid organ transplant organization, including directorship of the living donor program.
Duke offers the opportunity to work in one of the United States' leading academic research centers working with internationally renowned physician colleagues, including top ranked transplant-related NIH funding in 2014; a past president of UNOS; current president or leadership roles in all major solid organ transplant groups; and a recent Clinical Trials in Organ Transplantation award.
