The Department of Pediatrics within the Duke University School of Medicine is seeking a Chief for the Division of Neonatology at the Associate or Professor level. Proven leadership and excellence in clinical care, education, research and administrative experience are required. Candidates must have a Doctorate of Medicine and board-certified in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine. Candidates must have or be eligible for a North Carolina medical license. The candidate is expected to participate in clinical care, education of trainees and research.

Priorities for the Neonatology Division Chief include enhancing the research programs, developing innovative patient programs and mentoring of trainees, include medical students, residents and fellows. In addition, the Division Chief will have oversight of the Jean and George Brumley Jr, Neonatal-Perinatal Research Institute. The institute is a multidimensional program that includes over 80 investigators and collaborations with multiple clinical and basic science departments of the School of Medicine as well with other schools within the University, including the School of Nursing, the Pratt School of Engineering, and the Fuqua School of Business.

The Department of Pediatrics includes over 200 faculty with primary appointments in the Department. The Division of Neonatology includes 18 faculty members and 11 fellows. Several faculty members are also members of the Duke Clinical Research Institute and members of the Department's Division of Quantitative Sciences, which provides assistance in clinical trial design and data analysis to faculty throughout the Pediatric Department.

The neonatology faculty provides complex care at two sites, including in a 65-bed level IV intensive care unit at Duke Hospital and an 18-bed Level II unit at Duke Regional Hospital located in Durham County. In addition, the Division supports a Special Infant Care Clinic and a Transitional Medical Home Program that focuses on the growth and development of high-risk infants discharged from its intensive care units.

The Division is a highly respected and productive member of the National Institutes of Child Health and Human Development Neonatal Research Network. Mortality rates and rates of bronch-pulmonary dysplasia and retinopathy of prematurity are among the lowest in America. Presently, the Division has 97 active clinical trials.

The Division has held a T32 award supporting the training of fellows. The majority of graduates pursue academic careers.
