HJF is seeking a Research Analyst to support the US Military HIV Research Program (MHRP) located in Rockville, Maryland. HJF provides scientific, technical, and programmatic support services to MHRP. The incumbent serves as a research analyst supporting the clinical research activities of MHRP as a member of the Data Coordination and Analysis Center (DCAC). DCAC provides data collection, management, processing, and analytic support to a wide portfolio of research projects executed by MHRP and affiliated organizations including observational and interventional studies. The research portfolio includes studies that are executed in the United States and other countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Mozambique, Nigeria, Liberia, Ghana, Thailand, and Germany. Under the supervision of the Lead Research Analyst, the incumbent manages the data-related aspects of a portfolio of research projects with a focus on ensuring data integrity and facilitating data analyses. The incumbent supervises a team that includes programmers and data management specialists who are tasked with the creation and implementation of tools to support data capture, routine monitoring of data for completion and accuracy, communication with clinical research sites to coordinate data entry and response to database queries, preparation of data reports, and design and execution of statistical analyses to test research hypotheses. The incumbent directs the activities of this team to support individual research projects with guidance from the Principal Investigator, Associate Investigator(s), and the Physician Consultant for Data Analysis.

Responsibilities:

  1. Supervises and coordinates the collection, management, processing, and analysis of data for an assigned portfolio of research projects.
  2. Monitors the accuracy and completeness of data included in MHRP research databases and develops systems to enhance the integrity of these data.
  3. Assists in the design and writing of clinical research protocols and grant applications, particularly aspects related to data collection and interpretation.
  4. Processes data requests from MHRP investigators and collaborators, tracks the progress of analyses conducted by collaborators, and facilitates the integration of data generated by collaborators into MHRP research databases. 
  5. Develops statistical software coding and analytic methods that may be applied across multiple research projects and shared with collaborators who analyze data from MHRP studies.
  6. Provides relevant program status reports to the institution, regulatory agencies, funders, and other entities.
  7. Prepares figures, slides, posters, and other materials to facilitate the sharing of research findings with collaborators, funders, and the broader academic community.
  8. Develops training materials as needed, such as for new protocols or for protocol amendments.
  9. Develops and/or reviews data management plans, data use agreements, data entry instructions, standard operating procedures, case report forms, and other protocol-related documentation for assigned research protocols.
  10. Designs and implements statistical analyses in consultation with MHRP investigators and collaborators.
  11. Contributes to the preparation of scientific papers for presentation at local and national meetings and for publication in medical and scientific periodicals.
  12. Adheres to a policy of strict confidentiality concerning all documents, data, and information maintained within DCAC.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: Thorough knowledge of data management and biostatistical methods; proficiency in data analyses using statistical tools such as SAS, Stata, and GraphPad Prism; experience in the management of large datasets; awareness of data quality issues; experience in the analysis of clinical cohort and clinical trial data; experience managing multi-disciplinary teams; ability to lead and direct staff to meet mission requirements; familiarity with medical science and clinical research, ideally with experience in HIV-related research; ability to communicate effectively; ability to use sound judgment in solving problems; knowledge of word processing and spreadsheets on personal computer systems; ability to learn new systems necessary for job completion; ability to make effective presentations and publish scientific research; excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills; willingness to travel to research sites as needed to support MHRP research protocols.

Minimum Education/Training Requirements: Master’s degree in biostatistics, epidemiology, statistics, or a related field with experience conducting analyses using clinical cohort and/or clinical trial data. Experience in the field of HIV research preferred.

Minimum Experience: 4 - 6 Years of related experience.

Physical Capabilities: Bending, standing, and sitting; able to tolerate intercontinental travel.

Work Environment: Office setting.
