POSITION SUMMARY: Lead the Northwell effort to improve quality through reducing variability in pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, supplies, medical devices, and equipment utilized in patient care. Leadership of Northwell Health System Pharmacy and Therapeutics committee. Oversight of Northwell Health System clinical Value Analysis committees. Serve in an evaluative, educational, and advisory capacity to the medical staff and organizational administration in all matters pertaining to the use of medications, therapeutics, supplies, and medical devices with a goal of improving quality through reducing variability. Oversee improvements in medication and therapeutics safety, in conjunction with System Quality and the Office of the Chief Medical Informatics Officer. Works closely with the SVP Consolidated Business Services in the prioritization and pursuit of these efforts.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1.       Correlates variations in utilization data and adherence to evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to patient outcomes.
2.       Communicates to providers and internal staff for actionable treatment changes to enhance physician engagement and improve patient care.
3.       Works with all appropriate stakeholders on medication safety, including the selection of medications, appropriate inventory, administration, recall process.
4.       Collaborates with Information Technology leadership on leveraging the electronic health record for safe ordering practices, clinical decision support, and data collection.
5.       Works closely with System Quality leadership in the pursuit of improvements in clinical safety and quality.
6.       Works with System Quality leadership to ensure all regulatory requirements are met.
7.       Works closely with the Chief Procurement Officer and team to support improved patient care and increased value by identifying and pursuing product and equipment standardization.  
8.       Takes an innovative approach toward meeting changing healthcare paradigms and funding gaps resulting from payment reform
9.       Works to improve delivery models to meet the needs of consumers across the inpatient and outpatient continuum of care
10.   Works closely with nursing leadership
11.   Work closely with the VP of Pharmacy Operations and team to optimize prescribing practices to yield high value pharmaceutical care.
12.   Works closely with Finance leadership to identify opportunities to increase value and reduce costs through changes in the utilization of pharmaceuticals, clinical supplies, and medical devices.
13.   Performs utilization management, medical and pharmacy case review as needed.
14.   Serves as a clinical product resource for Northwell Health System staff, physicians, and corporate services.
15.   Strategically engages with key practitioners to develop effective working relationships.
16.   Educate the clinical community, in conjunction with provider relations and other Northwell Health System programs, initiatives, and resources.
17.   Facilitates resolution of identified issues/concerns.
18.   Work with Quality Teams and physicians to adhere to best-practices and standards.
19.   Becomes actively involved in the medical, clinical and corporate community.
20.   Drafts and reviews policies/procedures and clinical practice guidelines for submission to the PICG
21.   Leads the System Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Committee
22.   Attends and participates in Northwell Health System Committee Meetings such as the PICG and Clinical Operations meetings.

Performs special projects and other duties as outlined by the Chief Medical Officer (CMO)

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

•         Doctorate Degree in medicine.
•         Completed an accredited residency program.
•         Board Certified in a specialty.
•         Master’s in Business Administration a plus.
•         Current unrestricted, active license to practice medicine in New York State or has the ability to obtain an unrestricted New York State medical license.
•         Knowledge of hospital operations. Large IDN experience a plus
•         Clinical experience (five to ten years)
•         Experience utilizing medical informatics.
•         Data analysis related to market performance
•         Time management, collaboration, and teamwork.
•         Change management, negotiation, and resolution.
•         Strong interpersonal skills.
•         Possess good communications skills.
•         Ability to influence staff and network physicians.
•         Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participation in professional societies (i.e. AAPL, NAMCP, etc.).
•         Ability to act in a matrixed and team environment.
•         Ability to act independently when needed.

Knowledge of UM software a plus.

Salary Disclosure

Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125K to $750K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
