UCONN Health has an opportunity available for a Director of the ICU as full-time faculty in the in-residence track. Candidates with subspecialty qualification in addition to Critical Care Medicine will likely have the opportunity to practice the subspecialty in addition to critical care. Candidates for this position should have a strong interest in teaching, resident/medical student supervision, and fellowship training. Must be BC in Critical Care Medicine. No J-1 or H-1 Visas. The individual will have responsibility for directing the ICU. The UCONN Health ICU is a modern, spacious 28-bed medical-surgical ICU and CCU operating on a closed ICU model. It is the expectation that the ICU Director will play a major clinical role, thereby ensuring the excellence of patient care and the professionalism of the ICU service. The ICU plays a major role in Undergraduate and Graduate Medical Education as well as Critical Care APRN training. It is the responsibility of the ICU Director to ensure the academic excellence and professionalism of the ICU environment, faculty, and staff. The ICU Director will provide leadership and play an active role in the teaching and training activities for residents, fellows and students. This position has a leadership role in overseeing faculty recruitment and advancement, managing staffing, and scheduling of the ICU, while leading ongoing QA/QI initiatives and ensuring compliance with UCONN Health policies and procedures. A record of success as a medical investigator will be considered as a strength. This individual will contribute to administration and leadership, participate in the innovative growth of clinical programs enabled by the new John Dempsey Hospital University Tower with new ICU facilities opened in May 2016, as well as play a role in the transition to a new EMR. The University of Connecticut School of Medicine will be adding new faculty members over the next few years as part of an exciting new initiative (Bioscience Connecticut), which also includes a new state-of-the-art patient care hospital tower, a new outpatient pavilion, renovation of research space, and expansion of the medical student class size.
