Christiana Care Health System, headquartered in Wilmington, DE is searching for a BC Internal Medicine, Family Medicine or Med-Peds physician for the role of Medical Director for the Center for Special Needs. The Center for Special Needs is based in the Wilmington campus in Wilmington, DE.

The Center for Special Needs is Delaware’s first primary care practice focused on providing a medical home for young adults who have childhood onset or genetic chronic disease. The Center for Special Needs partners with Nemours Alfred I. DuPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington, DE and treats approximately 400 patients. The Center takes a multidisciplinary approach and is supported by the Medical Director, physicians, advanced practice nurse practitioners, social workers, a nurse coordinator, a medical assistant, and a program manager who are developing specialty collaboration around specific chronic diseases that begin in childhood and impact adult care and for the delivery of interventions uniquely needed by this population. This leadership position offers research projects, teaching opportunities with residents, medical students and other healthcare professionals, collaboration with community agencies, and fundraising opportunities to support the Center.

The Center for Special Needs is one of many primary care and specialty practices within The Medical Group of Christiana Care. The Medical Group is a large multispecialty group employing approximately 500 physicians with 18 primary care practices and 27 specialty practices located throughout DE, PA and NJ. Qualified candidates must be board certified in Medicine-Pediatrics, Family Medicine, or equivalent, with at minimum one year of experience working with young adult disabled patients with multiple medical conditions including Down syndrome, cystic fibrosis and muscular dystrophy.
