Chairperson, Department of Psychiatry; Lenox Hill Hospital

Lenox Hill Hospital, the Manhattan tertiary medical center of Northwell Health, is seeking a new Department of Psychiatry Chairperson.  This exciting position offers the opportunity to lead and continue to develop an academically-oriented behavioral health center of excellence on Manhattan’s Upper East Side. 

The Department serves diverse patient populations on its adult inpatient unit, New York State Office of Mental Health (OMH)-licensed outpatient clinic serving adults and children, specialized OMH-supported “On-Track” program for patients experiencing first-episode psychosis, electro-convulsive therapy (ECT) inpatient/outpatient program, consultation-liaison service for Lenox Hill’s 600+ medical-surgical inpatients, and emergency psychiatry program which also consults in the affiliated Greenwich Village Healthplex, a unique free-standing emergency room. 

A well-regarded training site for rotating psychiatry residents and psychology trainees, opportunities also exist for expanded psychiatric clerkship and elective options for medical students enrolled in our Hofstra Northwell School of Medicine, one of the newest and most progressive medical schools in the country; and for psychiatric nurse practitioner and physician assistant students from our Hofstra Northwell School of Graduate Nursing and Physician Assistant Studies.  Interested and qualified candidates may initiate projects in and/or collaborate with Northwell’s Center for Psychiatric Neuroscience at its Feinstein Institute for Medical Research and Zucker Hillside Hospital sites.

Through collaboration with Northwell’s Behavioral Health Service Line, the Lenox Hill Department of Psychiatry is able to interact with many innovative system-wide activities including emergency telepsychiatry; a CMS-funded practice transformation network; Northwell’s health insurance company, CareConnect, and its care management/population health enterprise, Health Solutions; the behavioral health performance improvement coordinating group, pharmacy and therapeutics committee, and incident review committee; the digital behavioral health technology workgroup; collaborative care models; and an ambulatory provider network, IPA, and behavioral health group practice.

Interested candidates must have or be eligible for an NYS medical license; be ABPN board certified in Psychiatry; possess consummate leadership skills, program development experience, financial acumen, and a strategic vision to help shape the future direction of a dynamic multi-faceted department; possess an academic portfolio in clinical service delivery, education, or research; be motivated to engage developing value-based payment methodologies and other health care reform initiatives; drive optimal quality, patient satisfaction, and staff engagement indices; and thoughtfully interact with both Lenox Hill and Northwell Health clinical and administrative leaders. 

We offer a highly competitive compensation and benefits package. Academic appointment with the Hofstra-Northwell School of Medicine is commensurate with credentials and experience.

Salary Disclosure

Full-time clinical base compensation at Northwell Health ranges from $125K to $750K, which is impacted by various factors, including but not limited to physician specialty, level of experience, quality of care, academic accomplishments, patient experience and productivity. The base compensation range listed is a good faith determination of potential base compensation at the time of this job advertisement and may be modified in the future.
