Call for the Director of the Human Technopole

Inspired by genomics-centered institutes such as the Broad Institute in Boston, Human Technopole will focus on genomics, big data, aging, and nutrition, leveraging the strength of Milan-based universities and research centers, as well as the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia (Italian Institute of Technology – IIT). With anticipated national funding amounting to ca. 1.5 billion euros over ten years, Human Technopole is poised to become one of the premier genomics institutes in the world.

Human Technopole is now seeking a Director to provide overall vision and guidance for the nascent center. Selection will be made by an international panel chosen by the Technical Scientific Committee of IIT (https://www.iit.it/institute/governance). The Director must be an internationally renowned scientist, with outstanding scientific track record, excellent multidisciplinary know how and capability to build and direct large scale infrastructures. 

The Director must have extensive experience in leading top-level international research Institutions, and high-level managerial experience to oversee start-up and development of the Human Technopole’s laboratory infrastructure and core facilities, and to direct the Human Technopole’s administrative staff. 

The Director’s main role will be to develop the Human Technopole (along the lines described in the masterplan published in www.htechnopole.it) and to recruit the staff, expected to grow to more than 1,400 people over a decade, including laboratories’ directors and independent tenure-track principal investigators. Human Technopole will aggressively pursue top scientific talents around the world to immediately create a culture of cutting-edge innovation and international competitiveness. To this end, the Director will convene international search committees to provide critical independent perspectives for the recruitment efforts.
