JOB SUMMARY:

Responsible for conducting and supervising research in computational biology, bioinformatics, quantitative genomics or related field in association with the sponsoring research faculty. Assumes responsibility for a specific topic within the research program and supervises the postdoctoral fellows and support staff in the conduct of that research.

Directly accountable to the sponsoring Faculty member

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Develops and manages a specific bioinformatics, computational biology or quantitative genomics project within the research program in collaboration with the supervising faculty. May prepare and submit funding applications within the content areas of the supervisor with appropriate approvals.

*2. May manage a small research group; conducting reviews and evaluating work. Leads discussions regarding experimental design, data analysis and interpretation of results. May represent the supervising faculty in leading the research group as needed.

*3. Responsible for gathering preliminary data for grant applications, completion of
objectives of funded external grants, and preparation of completed work for publication.
Contributes to writing grant applications or manuscripts.

4. May serve on research committees within Geisinger and the broader research community.

*5. Collaborates and/or leads genomics/bioinformatics analysis for clinical faculty and other investigators.

*6. Performs literature searches to gather information pertaining to research projects
or analytical methods in order to develop new protocols, research projects or grant applications for the work group.
*7. Advises other research employees regarding technical/analytical problems within area of expertise.

*8. Participates in work group meetings and formal seminars to present, explain, and discuss research interests. Makes presentations to extramural audiences at national meetings and academic institutions.

*9. Continuously demonstrates a commitment to Geisinger as an intellectual community and
supports Geisinger's goals as they relate to public service. Adheres to all research policies and training requirements.

10. Performs other duties as assigned.

Demonstrates extensive knowledge base in computational biology, bioinformatics, quantitative genomics or related field.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Ph.D. in computational biology, bioinformatics, quantitative genomics or related field or M.D with appropriate bioinformatics background required.

Minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience is required

Minimum of 5 peer reviewed publications required
