NEUROLOGIST:

Position: FULL TIME

Monday-Friday (7:30am – 4:30pm)

Fort Belvoir Community Hospital, Northern Virginia’s home for world-class military healthcare is seeking a Neurologist to provide services to outpatient Neurology clinic patients. As Neurologist, participate as a member of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) team with permanent membership from Neurosurgery, Trauma surgery, nursing, ICU, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine, and clinical Neuropsychology.

All Contractor HCP’s shall meet the QUALIFICATIONS for that specialty and perform essentially the same functions, within the scope of acceptable for their technical professional discipline and standard, as those required by Army or government service technical professionals of similar experience and in similar duty assignments. Contractor HCP practices/productivity will be compared to that of other Contractor HCP assigned to the same medical center.

a. The contract employee must have a working knowledge of an Automated Computer System, needs basic knowledge of Military Health Care System and be able to use a standard keyboard.

b. Graduation from an Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) accredited training program in Neurology.

c. Graduation from an ACGME accredited Fellowship training program in one of the following subspecialties is viewed as desirable but not mandatory: Neuro-Immunology, Multiple Sclerosis, Neuro-Rehabilitation, Neuro-Psychiatry, Behavioral Neurology, or Stroke.

d. Possess and maintain board certification in neurology as determined by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology. An applicant that has just completed their training must be Board Eligible.

e. Possess current clinical competency, as defined in section 5 of BUMEDINST 6320.66E in the clinical discipline required by this contract (e.g., physician, RN, dentist).

f. Certified to reads EEGs.

DUTIES:

The Contract Neurologist shall perform the following procedures, as required, and in strict compliance with standing orders and protocols set forth by the MTF to include, but will not necessarily be limited to the following:

a. Contractor Neurologist shall provide services to outpatient Neurology clinic patients, approximately four days per week, with one day reserved for use at the discretion of the Department Head for performing or staffing electro-diagnostic procedures, teaching, or administrative duties.

b. Contractor Neurologist shall Serve as Neurology Consult attending on a rotating monthly schedule no less than that time commensurate with the requirements of the other staff Neurology physicians; currently three months/academic year.

c. Contractor Neurologist shall participate as a member of the Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) team with permanent membership from Neurosurgery, Trauma surgery, nursing, ICU, Psychiatry, Physical Medicine, and clinical Neuropsychology, with a data manager/team manager as well as ad hoc members temporarily added needed, at the discretion of the team leader. This team carries out and assesses results of care provided under auspices of the team, as well as that from supportive medical, administrative, and other ancillary groups, e.g., social services, pastoral care, etc.

d. Contractor Neurologist shall develop a program for the comprehensive care of patients in their sub-specialty area of expertise, appropriate. Opportunity to develop areas of research will be provided.

e. Contractor Neurologist shall serve as Teaching Staff for the Neurology Program to include rotating residents, interns, and medical students assigned to the Neurology department.

f. Contractor Neurologist shall provide training and/or direction as applicable to supporting Government employees (i.e. LPNs, hospital corpsmen, technicians, students) assigned to you during the performance of clinical procedures. Perform limited administrative duties which include maintaining statistical records of their clinical workload participating in education programs and research, and participating in clinical staff quality assurance functions and Process Action Teams, as prescribed by the Commander.

g. Contractor Neurologist shall participate in monthly meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist.

h. Contractor Neurologist shall order and interpret diagnostic tests as applicable.

i. Contractor Neurologist shall assist in maintaining medical records, respecting confidentiality and standard MTF protocols
