  Geisinger Health System is rapidly building large-scale genomics efforts for precision medicine across our healthcare system and is seeking a director of Molecular Pathology.

We have a collaborative project to sequence more than 250,000 of our patients and a clinical research program that will integrate next-generation sequencing into everyday healthcare. Responsibilities of the director will include:

    Director of the MyCode® biobank, intended to be a CAP/CLIA-certified biorepository of DNA and other tissue samples from Geisinger patients for clinical research activities
    Accountability for quality and performance of the molecular pathology lab for the health system
Accountability for developing state-of-the-art genome analyses, including total and targeted exome sequencing and/or whole genome sequencing in a CLIA-certified clinical laboratory

Adequate bioinformatics background to work with and/or supervise a bioinformatician and a genetics counselor  

Geisinger Health System is an integrated delivery system with a fully implemented electronic health record and a history of applying new technologies and ACO approaches to clinical care. Geisinger serves more than 3 million residents throughout 45 counties in central, south-central and northeast Pennsylvania. Geisinger is home to one of the best annotated biobanks in the nation, with over 100,000 specimens. The Laboratory Medicine Department includes 33 pathologists and PhDs. In addition to fulfilling its patient care mission, Geisinger has a long-standing commitment to medical education, research and community service.

Candidates should be board certified in anatomic pathology or anatomic/clinical pathology with board certification/eligibility in molecular pathology and substantial training and experience in next-generation sequencing methodologies, analysis and clinical interpretation. The Molecular Pathology section will work in close collaboration with the Geisinger Cancer Institute, the Weis Research Center and the Genomic Medicine Institute.
