The School of Medicine at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) and MD Anderson Cancer Center seek an accomplished leader and prominent oncologist with an outstanding record of clinical program development, scientific achievement, grant support, scholarly accomplishments, and mentorship as Director, UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center. Dynamic leadership, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and keen vision are required.

The UT Health San Antonio MD Anderson Cancer Center San was formed in October 2016 through an affiliation between The University of Texas Health Science Center San Antonio (UT Health San Antonio) and The University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center. The new Center will combine the globally leading resources of two of the UT System’s leading institutions – UT Health San Antonio and its NCI-designated Cancer Therapy & Research Center (CTRC) and MD Anderson Cancer Center -- to expand and develop a robust, growing hub for outstanding cancer treatment and research in the South Texas region.

Reporting to the President, UT Health San Antonio, and indirectly to the SVP, Cancer Network at MD Anderson, the Director will provide leadership and expertise for cancer clinical operations, integration and alignment, clinical effectiveness, medical staff supervision, and physician leadership development. He/she will help create and lead a unified clinical infrastructure with common basic operations and standardized administrative processes. The Director will oversee the implementation, coordination, monitoring, evaluation, and improvement of clinical outcomes, evidence-based cancer research and standards, and innovative clinical methodologies and opportunities of the Cancer Center. The Director will play a primary role in promoting and supporting outstanding translational, clinical, and basic research activities by members of the Cancer Center and those of other SOM departments and centers, promote/support the contribution of the Cancer Center to high-quality graduate education, and foster a collaborative culture.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished, collaborative leader who is widely recognized as a leading expert in her/his oncologic discipline and who possesses proven experience in growing and operating a successful clinical enterprise, a strong record of accomplishment in fostering and conducting outstanding research, and a passion for providing exceptional cancer care to patients. The candidate will have a proven track record of managing clinical operations in an oncology organization either as a cancer center director, division chief, or specialty program director. She/he will possess a level of expertise typically gained with a minimum of five to seven years’ leadership experience.

The candidate will be a board-certified oncologist or appropriate specialist with an MD or equivalent degree (MBBS, et al.), have completed an ACGME accredited residency program, and be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in the State of Texas. He/she will possess training in oncology and have significant clinical experience in an academic cancer center.
