 The Enterprise Chief Medical Information Officer (CMIO) will be a collaborative member of the Information Technology Department (ITD) and an enterprise leader around Clinical Information Technology.  These initiatives leading to transformation across the system will constitute the tactical and strategic components of the position.  The CMIO will lead with strong organization, and a strategic vision to deliver upon enterprise strategic initiatives and technical partnership.  The scope of the position will include all care delivery across the enterprise and encompass all aspects of clinical coordination and oversight for the integration of technology and associated data with medical/clinical practice.  The position will be considered senior and one to assume strong leadership and management for the clinical informatics directors across the high velocity development teams. The candidate for this role will collaborate with the Clinical Operations IT Executive to ensure a consistent prioritized roadmap for technical excellence across the entire division.  There will be two direct reports to the position. Two Associate Chief Medical Information Officers and ten-twelve physicians indirectly reporting. 

 

The CMIO will direct of best practices for Clinical Informatics (EPIC Roadmap, Stars program, meaningful use, guidelines, protocols, content, alerts, and clinical mobility) and automation of retrospective, real time and predictive reports and ensure that Cleveland Clinic embeds best practices in Epic and manages the optimal usage of the automated best practices by the medical staff.  This will be a role and office that will set direction, provide organization and lead execution.

 

The strategies and initiatives should be consistent with the values, mission and long-term strategic plan of Cleveland Clinic.  The Chief Medical Information Officer will be consultative, strategic and tactical in approach and become recognized nationally through publication, presentation and attending relevant conferences.

 

 

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Role will be a direct report to the Chief Health Information Officer
  • Develop guideline and structure for cross functional IT governance
  • Chair the Enterprise Clinical System Committee
  • Participate in the creation of enterprise standards for clinical informatics excellence including expectations for training, development and best practice implementation
  • Aligned with the Chief of Staff Strategic Agenda Management core team and associated teams
  • Partner with the Clinical Operations IT Executive for prioritization, roadmap and strategic planning
  • Provider oversight and leaders to the Physician Informatics:
    • Hiring, Retention, academic productivity, growth and alignment
  • Clinical Oversight for Prioritization and allocation in conjunction with EIM&A and the ERAS.
  • Partner with the High Velocity Development Executive Director to provide clinical oversight and alignment for the Strategic High velocity developing areas
  • Provide strategy and execution for clinical information systems initiatives across system
  • Implementation and optimization of clinical information systems to effect maximum quality of the organizations clinical strategies and operations
  • Manage staff of physicians for IT projects and initiatives
  • In coordination with appropriate leadership enhance clinical IS for physician utilization of information technology
  • Build relationships with physicians and other relevant leadership
  • Lead and support the development and periodic review of the information system strategic plan for clinical systems
  • Effectively understand and implement the IS strategic plan, initiatives and strategies
  • Lead optimization strategies
  • Responsible for networking with national clinical leaders to bring the best possible protocols and guidelines of care to the Cleveland Clinic
  • Develop measures of success, which includes physician/clinician satisfaction
  • Modifying clinical process/workflows usability of the system to collect meaningful data to improve clinical/business performance and outcome
  • Participate in the design of clinical pathway models with physician, nursing, clinical and administrative leadership, and assists in modification of these models to gain maximum efficacy and support for patient care, education and research protocols
  • Maintain a presence in the medical informatics community through conference attendance, publications and presentations and also a presence in the vendor and association community
  • Work to develop and ensure that the technology and the functionality of systems will meet the progressive and developmental goals of future clinical care throughout the organization
