POSITION DEFINITION

The Dean/Assistant Dean of Clinical Sciences position is responsible for the development and management of all academic programs in the clinical sciences, clinical science faculty recruitment, retention and development, clinical science student learning, professional development and discipline and overall supervision of the academic administrative staff within the clinical sciences. This position is based out of our Woodbury, NY office and requires regular travel to our campus in Aruba

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Recruits, supervises, encourages development of, assesses, and disciplines all clinical science faculty, to ensure sufficient quality faculty to undertake all educational programs;
  • Recruits, develops, supervises, assesses, and otherwise manages all hospital, health system, physician office, or other sites for clinical rotations;
  • Development of clinical science curriculum including the development of e-learning and distance learning programs;
  • Develop and maintain all necessary policies, procedures, and other documents for consistent quality management of the clinical sciences, including faculty and student handbooks;
  • Supervises the transition from basic sciences to clinical sciences for all medical students, including transition courses, examinations, and other school requirements;
  • Supervises of all academic and student affairs in the clinical years;
  • Encourages research, effective teaching, and on-line course development and teaching among faculty;
  • Manages and assesses departmental, program, and course level outcomes;
  • Maintains contact with, and fosters communication with alumni/ae;
  • Prepares the clinical science budget for the CAO;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

REPORTS TO:

  • Chief Academic Officer, primary
  • President, secondary

REQUIREMENTS

  • MD, DO, or equivalent degree, with specialty certification;
  • Minimum of five years in medical education including positions of leadership in administration and management;
  • Recognized excellence in teaching;
  • Knowledge of both United States and International Medical Education, including accreditation, training, and examination requirements;
  • Understanding of quality assessment, evaluation, and continuous improvement;
  • Excellent oral, written, and electronic communication skills;
  • Understanding of requirements of Caribbean Medical Schools.
  • Willingness to travel
