Chief of Staff

VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS), located in Seattle, Washington, is recruiting for a Physician to serve as their Chief of Staff to provide administrative, programmatic, and clinical leadership for the medical center. VAPSHCS is a level 1A, academic, tertiary health care system, affiliated with the University of Washington, and was deemed to provide the highest complexity of care in all of the Department of Veterans Affairs. Staffed by approximately 4300 FTEE, VAPSHCS provides a full range of patient care services with state-of-the-art technology, plus education and research.

VAPSHCS provides health care annually to more than 100,000 Veterans in a large geographic area between two major divisions, Seattle and American Lake, as well as VA-staffed Community-Based Outpatient Clinics throughout Western Washington. The medical center has a strong affiliation with the University of Washington School of Medicine as well as a number of other educational institutions, and hosts hundreds of medical residents in 37 specialties, dental residents in three specialties, medical students, nursing-auxiliary students, and nursing-professional students. VAPSHCS has one of the most robust and competitive research programs in VA and is home to seven nationally recognized Centers of Excellence: Multiple Sclerosis Center of Excellence West (MSCoE West), Center of Excellence in Substance Abuse Treatment and Education (CESATE), Epilepsy Center of Excellence, Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) Center of Excellence, Center of Excellence in Primary Care Education, RR&D Center of Excellence for Limb Loss Prevention and Prosthetic Engineering, and Center of Innovation for Veteran-Centered and Value-Driven Care. 

The qualified applicant to the Chief of Staff position will be a physician, who is board certified in any specialty recognized by the American Board of Medical Specialties and holds significant leadership, mentoring, and management experience in a tertiary care environment, plus strong health care operations and planning experience. S/he must have demonstrated expertise in the academic missions of education and research in an affiliated environment and have credentials warranting academic appointments as either an Associate Professor or Full Professor and Associate Dean in the School of Medicine at the University of Washington.

Other Requirements: US citizenship; current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a state, territory, or commonwealth of the United States; fluency in spoken and written English.
