JOB SUMMARY:

Provides high-level professional, clinical and/or technical leadership in the design, implementation, operations and dissemination of findings from research, demonstration and evaluation projects. Senior Investigator II's assume a leadership role in program level development within Geisinger and in the design, development, implementation and reporting of clinical/behavioral interventions.

Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of the system in its efforts to provide quality patient care and patient satisfaction.

Works under the supervision of the ACMO or Institute Director.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

A. PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT: (15%)
1. Responsible for program development involving two GHS departments/divisions; one clinical department and one support service division (i.e., Information Technology, Geisinger Health Plan, Clinical Effectiveness, etc).

B. RESEARCH: (75%-85%)
2. Directs day-to-day scientific work on research projects. Provides oversight of staff in scientific aspects of their work or supervision of staff.

3. Designs research protocols and develop research opportunities. Pursues independent funding for research.

4. Communicates research project results, including but not limited to development and dissemination of interim and final reports, manuscripts for peer review journals, abstracts, presentations, posters, and press releases.

C. CONSULTING/ADVISING: (0%-10%)
5. Provides advice and professional services to research project in areas of special expertise.

6. Supervises junior investigators in obtaining research funding and in professional development.

D. Performs other duties as required or assigned by emergency or other operational reasons for which the employee is qualified to perform.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Demonstrated thorough knowledge of and high level professional skills relevant to the conduct of research and communication of results.

Demonstrated strong organizational and problem solving skills, demonstrated experience and successful history of developing and publishing research communications at national meetings, including manuscripts, abstracts and poster presentations are required.

Demonstrated ability to supervise and promote development of junior investigators.

Demonstrated ability to develop and implement new programs/initiatives.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Doctoral degree (PhD or MD/DO) with 9 or more years experience as a researcher required. The degree must be in social, behavioral, health services, epidemiology or other medical or public health fields appropriate to the specific field of research required by the position. Demonstrated publication experience in peer reviewed journals and successful grant funding experience required.
