Nominations and applications are invited for the position of Dean of the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois at Chicago (UIC).

UIC, the largest public research university located in the metropolitan Chicago area, is a major contributor to the economic, academic, and healthcare vitality of the city. UIC has a budget of $2.095 billion and with more than $313 million in annual research awards (FY16), UIC ranks among the leading universities in federal research funding. The campus serves a diverse student population of 29,000 with a faculty and staff of 15,603 and is designated a Minority, Hispanic, and Asian American and Pacific Islander Serving Institution. UIC programs span the arts, business, education, humanities, basic, social and health sciences, engineering and technology, social work, urban planning, and public policy. The School of Public Health, the only fully-accredited School of Public Health in Illinois, contributes significantly to the research activity of UIC, and links closely to other UIC colleges and care delivery system.

The UIC School of Public Health (UIC-SPH) is dedicated to excellence in protecting and improving the health and well-being of the people of the metropolitan Chicago area, Illinois, the nation, and others throughout the world. The school achieves this mission by educating scientists, professionals, and the public, conducting research to develop solutions to public health problems, providing public health services, and formulating public health policy. UIC-SPH has over 100 faculty and a student body of over 700 studying in the divisions of Community Health Sciences, Environmental and Occupational Health Sciences, Epidemiology and Biostatistics, and Health Policy and Administration. The School offers six degrees: Bachelor of Arts in Public Health (BA), Master of Public Health (MPH), Master of Science (MS), Master of Healthcare Administration (MHA), Doctor of Public Health (DrPH), and the Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), along with certificate programs and non-degree continuing education opportunities.

The School partners with multiple communities and stakeholders to improve health equity with an urban to global focus. The School is recognized for strong programs in asthma, biostatistical methods, cancer, environmental and occupational safety and health, gerontology, global health, health promotion, infectious diseases, maternal and child health, prevention research, public health informatics, public health policy, and public health practice and leadership. There are numerous centers and institutes in the School of Public Health, including the Institute for Health Research and Policy, Cure Violence, and Community Outreach Intervention Projects. The position of Dean requires innovative leadership skills, communication, and administrative skills that will enable him/her to enhance the ability of faculty, staff, and students to effectively address important emerging public health issues. To achieve this, the Dean must be able to align essential internal and external constituencies toward common goals and to garner resources through fund-raising and extramural research support. A commitment to both public health research and practice and an appreciation for the UIC Strategic Priorities - Student Experience and Success, National and International Impact and Visibility, Chicago and Community Engagement, and Entrepreneurial University is essential. The Dean reports to the UIC Vice Chancellor for Health Affairs who oversees the seven health science colleges and the care delivery system (www.vcha.uic.edu).

Qualifications:
Candidates should have an outstanding record of scholarly achievement for appointment as a tenured Full Professor; a terminal degree in a field relevant to public health; a demonstrated commitment to diversity, excellence in teaching and learning, and shared faculty governance; and strong collaborative negotiating and administrative leadership skills.
