The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System is seeking a Tele-Dermatologist to provide all aspects of patient care including inpatient/outpatient/tele-medical care. Our facility provides services to veterans living in a 15-county area of Michigan and northwest Ohio and also serves as a referral center for specialty care. Highly qualified candidates are needed to lead, give direction and teaching, and provide knowledge, skills and abilities in the Dermatology field.

The incumbent will provide dermatological patient care to veteran patients, to include prescribing medications, performing skin surgical procedures, biopsies, laboratory requests, and treating patients in an outpatient clinic setting and by tele-dermatology. Experience in store-and-forward and live video tele-dermatology is preferred as this will likely represent a significant portion of patient care in this position. The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System has a commitment to Women's Health; therefore, the incumbent candidate should demonstrate an interest in and experience treating dermatologic conditions that are specific to women.

Teaching residents and medical students is required. Incumbent will provide teaching/guidance to rotating residents, fellows, and medical students and train other professional staff in the Dermatology Service. The selected candidate will also serve as a liaison to primary care and internal medicine within the VA Health System, thus experience in dealing with complex medical dermatologic problems and inpatient dermatology is preferred along with documented experience in direct teaching of non-dermatologic residents, preferentially Internal Medicine residents. In addition, the selected physician will be expected, with the approval of the Chief, Dermatology Service, to develop an area of individual expertise that will benefit veteran patients and the Dermatology Service; related publications are encouraged.

The selected candidate will provide clinical care to Veterans who require dermatologic evaluation and therapy; a portion of the care will occur via tele-dermatology (store-and-forward, live video conferencing, or both). Face-to-face contact with patients will also occur.

  • The incumbent will develop and manage a live video tele-dermatology program
  • The incumbent will run a surgical clinic in which relatively large benign and cancerous lesions are excised
  • The incumbent will direct, provide clinical services for our contact dermatitis program, and teach other physicians about contact dermatitis
  • The incumbent will serve as liaison to and frequent teacher of primary care and internal medicine staff and residents
  • The incumbent will have a major role in clinical care and management of inpatient Veterans, whether they are admitted for primary dermatologic issues or admitted to other services for primarily non-dermatologic medical conditions
  • The incumbent will direct and lead the administrative and clinical involvement of the Dermatology Service in the Women's Health program

The incumbent is responsible to contribute to the achievements of quality of care standards, efficiency, process improvement, and patient satisfaction. They are expected to practice in accordance with professional standards, core values, and with a commitment to service excellence.
