Chief, UCSF Division of Hematology-Oncology at Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital

The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) Department of Medicine at Priscilla Chan and Mark Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital (ZSFG) seeks a leader for its Division of Hematology-Oncology. The ZSFG Division of Hematology-Oncology currently comprises eight faculty who provide consultative inpatient care for patients with malignant solid tumors and benign hematologic conditions. The Division also has an active outpatient practice and chemotherapy service, supported by a team of mid-level providers, social workers, and pharmacists. The Hematology-Oncology Division at ZSFG is committed to academic excellence. Education of residents and fellows in specialty care, in inpatient as well as outpatient settings, represents an important mission of the Division. In addition, there are rich opportunities for research in the Division, particularly for the study of cancer in ethnically diverse and vulnerable populations. Faculty in the Division are closely allied with the Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center at UCSF.

The Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital is an essential part of San Francisco’s health care system serving some 100,000 patients each year and providing 20 percent of the city’s inpatient care. We serve the community with a full complement of inpatient, outpatient, emergency, diagnostic, and psychiatric services for adults and children 24-hours a day. ZSFG offers compassionate and culturally competent care to a diverse community of patients in more than 20 languages. ZSFG is owned and operated by the City and County of San Francisco, Department of Public Health and is part of a city wide integrated health care system, providing primary, specialty, and hospital care for vulnerable populations. In May 2016, ZSFG opened a brand new hospital: http://zuckerbergsanfranciscogeneral.org/. The faculty in the Division of Hematology-Oncology will play key roles in clinical management and leadership in this new hospital.

ZSFG and UCSF have been partners in public health since 1872, attracting physicians who are leaders in their fields and making ZSFG one of the nation’s top academic medical centers, training tomorrow’s providers and leaders. The research conducted at ZSFG has led to many important breakthroughs in the delivery of care to vulnerable populations. The UCSF research programs at ZSFG are awarded around $160 million annually, and have resulted in benefits to our patients by offering the best care that medical science has to offer. The successful candidate will join the full time UCSF Department of Medicine (DOM) faculty and be included in the UCSF DOM compensation and benefits program.

We seek a Chief who has a demonstrated commitment to a safety net population, the ability to lead a diverse group, and work with hospital partners using a collaborative approach, success in promoting or producing scholarship and funding, and ability to mentor young faculty.

Successful candidates for this position must demonstrate exceptional leadership, administrative, and organizational skills in academic Hematology-Oncology in the areas of patient care, medical education, and research. The applicant must have national stature in academic Hematology-Oncology and be board-certified in Oncology or Hematology.

The salary is open to negotiation. Please apply online at: https://aprecruit.ucsf.edu/apply/JPF00419 and submit a curriculum vitae, cover letter, statement of research, and statement of teaching.
