The Sections of Palliative Care and Geriatrics in the Division of Primary Care and Population Health, Department of Medicine at Stanford University seeks a health services investigator to join the Department at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor level in the University Tenure Line (UTL) or Medical Center Line (MCL). Applicants are required to have either an MD, PhD, or its equivalent. We are seeking dynamic, creative individuals to bring intellectual leadership and rigorous scholarship to our existing health services research activities. Successful and qualified researchers will exhibit accomplishment in research relevant to the care of older adults and their caregivers living with the consequences of advanced illness including bereavement. They will also be expected to contribute to our mission through education and teaching including training and mentoring of post-doctoral fellows and other trainees in graduate programs associated with the Stanford University School of Medicine.

The research activities of the Sections of Palliative Care and Geriatrics are diverse and encompass pain and symptoms measurement, goals of care communication, innovative models for delivering palliative and end of life care and other services for aging adults, global health, appropriate use of medications, health informatics and other applications of technology and bioinformatics, quality of care including measurement and quality improvement, implementation science, health economics, ethnogeriatrics, supportive oncology, and biomedical ethics.

The predominant criteria for appointment in the University Tenure Line is a major commitment to research and teaching. The major criteria for appointment in the Medical Center Line shall be excellence in the overall mix of clinical care, clinical teaching, scholarly activity that advances clinical medicine, and institutional service appropriate to the programmatic need the individual is expected to fill. Faculty rank and line will be determined by the qualifications and experience of the successful candidate.

The successful candidate should be either a physician or doctoral level researcher. Clinicians should have a board certification or be board eligible in palliative medicine or geriatrics and successful applicants will have a growing track record of publication and funding commensurate with experience.
