The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) and the Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Hematology/Oncology at the UNM School of Medicine invite applications from physicians or physician scientists with training and expertise in medical oncology and a focused interest in clinical care and clinical/translational research for patients with thoracic and aero-digestive malignancies. The successful applicant will participate in the multidisciplinary clinical care of patients and in the design and conduct of cancer clinical trials as a member of the UNMCCC Multidisciplinary Working Group in Lung and Aerodigestive Malignancies. This is an Open Rank, Open Track position. Faculty rank and appointment will be commensurate with accomplishments. The successful applicant will have fellowship training or experience in the clinical care of thoracic cancers and strong interest in the development of clinical trials and immune/targeted therapies for lung cancer. Emphasis is placed on the ability to foster interactions between laboratory and clinical investigators, participate in multidisciplinary clinical trial teams, and participate in the teaching mission of the Division and the Cancer Center. Excellent salaries, endowed positions, and start up packages are available.

Minimum qualifications include: 1) MD or combined MD/PhD degree with board certification in Internal Medicine; 2) Board certification/eligibility in Medical Oncology; 3) Experience in cancer clinical trials with a focused interest in thoracic malignancies, and 4) Must be eligible to work in the U.S.; this is not a J-1 Visa opportunity. Preferred qualifications include: 1) Experience in cancer clinical trial design and conduct; 2) Experience in resident/fellow education; 3) Experience in clinical and translational research.

The University of New Mexico Comprehensive Cancer Center (UNMCCC) is the Official Cancer Center of State of New Mexico and the only National Cancer Institute (NCI)-Designated Cancer Center within a 500-mile radius. One of the premier cancer centers nationwide, the UNMCCC has 130 board-certified oncology physicians and surgeons, forming New Mexico’s largest cancer care team and treats over 60 percent of New Mexicans diagnosed with cancer. Through its statewide cancer clinical trials network, considered an “exemplary national model for cancer clinical trials and health care delivery research,” the UNMCCC offers access to more than 175 clinical trials. The UNMCCC has 134 research-intensive faculty engaged in four research programs: Cancer Control & Disparities; Cancer Genetics, Epigenetics and Genomics; Cancer Cell Biology and Signaling; and Cancer Therapeutics, supported by outstanding research resources including state-of-the-art genomics, an NCI NEXT Center of Excellence for drug discovery and development, bioinformatics/biostatistics, tissue banking and analysis, and cell biology. Through its formal consortium partners (Los Alamos and Sandia National Laboratories, Lovelace Respiratory Research Institute), the UNMCCC integrates advanced computational, imaging, radioisotope, nanotechnology, and drug discovery capabilities into its innovative and rich scientific environment.
