JOB SUMMARY:

Geisinger’s Division of Informatics operationalizes data-driven research, discovery and programs to re-engineer healthcare using applied clinical informatics. The Division’s principles encourage deliberative democratic debate, transparency and team-based inclusiveness with the intent to accelerate the application of ideas that improve the patient experience and clinician effectiveness. The Division consists of four main functions: Informatics, Geisinger in Motion, Data Management, and the Health Sciences Library.

Informatics is home to physician and nurse informaticists, and also includes the Fellowship Program. GiM solutions typically include the use of Internet, portal, mobile, telehealth and Health IT technologies.

Data Management is responsible for managing all Geisinger enterprise data according to Geisinger’s Enterprise Data Management Strategy and Data Governance, and is responsible for making data accessible and intuitive for Geisinger business users. DM solutions typically include Big Data (e.g. Hadoop), Relational Data (e.g. SQL structures), and data visualization (e.g. Tableau)

The Health Sciences Library assists providers with research for patient care and patients with finding information about healthcare conditions and topics.

The Chief Data Officer (CDO) has executive-level ownership of and responsibility for Geisinger Health System’s data management and for data’s use as a strategic business asset. Specifically, the CDO is tasked with crafting and implementing the enterprise-level strategies, structures, standards and procedures for data access, integration, maintenance, governance, dissemination, and analysis. The CDO is responsible for advising other members of organizational leadership on matters of data and information strategy, with a particular focus on the role of data and information generation in value generation, business development, and organizational growth.
