As Riverside Health System (RHS) continues their tradition of being at the forefront of healthcare in the South Eastern portion of Virginia, the focus is now on preparation for new delivery and reimbursement models, while still operating in a predominantly fee-for-service environment. RHS is seeking a Chief Medical Officer (CMO), who has experience in creating physician alignment strategies with both employed and independent physicians. Strategies may include innovative compensation models, Clinically Integrated Network development, and shared risk models. The CMO skill set will also include creating effective performance in selected risk programs, such as bundled payment models, while maintaining RHS’s reputation for outstanding quality, safety, and patient experience. Overarching is the use of technology and the electronic record to create infrastructure that drives performance. RHS has an extensive post-acute care continuum; an added plus would be an understanding of effectively positioning and utilizing this resource in the coming era of health reform.

The CMO will be paired with the Chief Operating Officer in directing the System and reports to the Chief Executive Officer. The CMO plays an integral role in transitioning a highly successful regional system into a fully integrated continuum of care, that anchors or participates in Accountable Care and Clinically Integrated Network structures. Full integration will tie together five submarkets, with a large number of points of care and differing urban and rural geographies. Reporting to the position will be quality, individual VPMAs, Physician Service Line Leaders, and 500+ physicians/advanced practice clinicians, which comprise Riverside Medical Group.

RHS is a $1 billion+ revenue enterprise, comprised of five acute care hospitals, three specialty hospitals, a 500-person Medical Group. The System also operates four PACE centers, nine long-term care facilities, totaling 1,700 beds, two wellness centers, and the region’s leading home care and hospice organization. Among the strengths of the System is a reputation for clinical excellence, particularly in neurosciences and oncology, solid financial performance, and being the market leader for healthcare. RHS has also been recognized as one of the nation’s Top 100 Most Wired health systems by Hospital & Health Networks Magazine for 12 consecutive years.

This position is best suited for a physician executive comfortable in high performing teams, with prior senior leadership experience in areas pertinent to the role. Physicians with experience, or future aspirations, in operational leadership are encouraged to apply. Please send confidential inquiries, nominations, and applications to the Riverside Health System consultants, Christine Mackey-Ross and Wendy Brower at: RHSCMO@wittkieffer.com; or call: 314-754-6072.
