JOB SUMMARY:

Administers survey research interviews via telephone on various research projects. Records responses using Computer Assisted Interviewing Program (CATI) on a computer assisted survey execution system following specific project driven protocols and procedures.

Works under the direct supervision of the Survey Unit Manager.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Administers survey research interviews. Contacts study subjects according to specific study protocols. Gains cooperation of the Respondent. Administers interviews following scripts and instruments, using approved interviewing techniques and protocols. Accurately and completely records interview responses on CATI system using survey software. Pilots test interview instruments in development and provide feedback to supervisor.

*2. Obtains updated address/phone information. Follows project-specific protocol using Directory Assistance, available data, chart requests, and subject provided contracts, directories or other sources.

*3. Performs general study related activities. Identifies study problems. Performs related clerical tasks. Attends interviewer staff meetings and project trainings. Attends internal trainings as needed.

4. Performs other duties as required or assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

Demonstrates typing skills, attention to detail, excellent verbal and written communication skills, and some clerical experience.

Demonstrates ability to be comfortable being certified on software and all survey research projects.

Demonstrates the desire to talk with people over the telephone.

Demonstrates competence in MS Word, word processing with speed and accuracy 50 WPM, 10 key by touch, and understanding of telephone research interviewing.

Demonstrates some form of public contact via telephone (PTA, school lists, sports rosters, etc).

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

High School diploma or equivalent required.

Minimum one year previous interviewing using computerized survey tools preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is typically performed in an office environment. Sits for a minimum of four hours. Talks on the phone for a minimum of four hours. Works on a keyboard for a minimum of four hours.
