JOB SUMMARY:

Position provides opportunity for growth and development as an independent investigator. Will conduct specific research projects under the supervision of faculty level investigator(s). Provides intellectual and technical support to research projects within a developing cardiovascular disease epidemiology research program.

Performs duties to support the goals and objectives of Geisinger Health System in its efforts to provide quality service and patient satisfaction.

Reports to Clinical Research Resources leadership.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

*1. Develops research protocols and conducts research related to cardiovascular disease epidemiology.

*2. Leads and participates in ongoing funded projects in atrial fibrillation, heart failure, myocardial infarction, peripheral arterial disease, percutaneous coronary intervention, diabetes, and others, leading to authorship on peer-reviewed publications.

*3. Provides epidemiologic study design and data analysis support to clinical investigators in cardiology, leading to authorship on peer-reviewed publications.

*4. Gathers, summarizes, records and interprets data obtained from research projects/initiatives.

*5. Plans subsequent work with review/approval of principal investigator.

6. May instruct others in area of expertise.

7. May present research results at internal and external scientific venues.

8. May develop and write own grant proposals to both federal and industry funding sources.

*9. Interprets and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals/deadlines.

*10. May perform other duties as assigned.

COMPETENCIES AND SKILLS:

RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT FUNCTION-Knowledge of the major responsibilities, accountabilities, and organization of the research and development (R&D) function within an organization.

RESEARCH DOCUMENTATION-Knowledge of and ability to utilize tools and techniques for producing well-written, meaningful and usable documentation of research findings.

QUANTITATIVE RESEARCH-Knowledge of and the ability to use numerical methods to compile information about a given situation or condition.

QUALITATIVE RESEARCH-Knowledge of and ability to gain insights concerning attitudes, beliefs, motivations and behaviors related to organization's products and services.

REFERENCE CONTENT-Knowledge of and ability to create reference content, such as tables of contents, indexes, glossaries and technical abstracts of research documents.

RESEARCH ANALYSIS-Knowledge of and ability to locate, interpret and evaluate research findings compiled and documented by others and the use of this material to support empirical research.

OBTAINED FUNDING-Demonstrated ability to obtain funding for research.

 

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

Requires PhD in Epidemiology or related field with an interest in cardiovascular disease.  Fluency in statistical analysis software such as SAS required.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Work is usually performed in an office environment
