About the NICU at GMC41-bed, Level IV Regional NICU serves Central and Northeastern PennsylvaniaOver 600 admissions with greater than 200 neonatal transports annuallyHelicopter and ground transport services are available with NICU-based transport team.Training site for pediatric and internal medicine-pediatric residents, medical students and neonatal nurse practitioner students from various universities
Job RequirementsRecent experience with high-frequency ventilation, nitric oxide administration, hypothermia therapy, congenital heart disease and peri-operative management is required.
About the DepartmentNeonatologists provide around-the-clock in house coverage, assisted by NNPs, PAs and housestaff for the NICU located immediately adjacent to the labor and delivery.Neonatology services are supported by an active maternal-fetal medicine service, as well as a complete array of pediatric medical and surgical specialists based in Danville.Neonatology conducts frequent neonatal outreach education and simulation programs to more than 20 hospitals throughout our referral area.Neonatology co-directs the Center for Prenatal Pediatrics with maternal fetal medicine, conducting multispecialty outpatient consultation to mothers expecting a fetus with congenital anomaliesThe NICU is a member of the Vermont-Oxford Network VLBW database and all department members participate in performance improvement projects that benefit NICU patients. Janet Weis Children’s Hospital (JWCH), located on Geisinger Medical Center’s campus in Danville, is the region’s only dedicated 5-floor, 89 bed children's hospital with a full-service hospitalist program.
