The MedStar Heart and Vascular Institute (MHVI) and Critical Care Medicine Department at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center is recruiting a cardiology critical care physician to join our cardiac critical care team.

MedStar Washington Hospital Center is an 800-bed tertiary care academic medical center located near downtown Washington, DC. Cardiovascular disease patients are cared for in a newly renovated space that includes a state-of-the-art 44-bed cardiovascular intensive care unit. Last year, MHVI performed more than 7,400 cardiac interventional procedures, 3,500 electrophysiology procedures, 300 structural heart procedures, 1,700 cardiac surgeries, 1,700 vascular surgeries, and nearly 100 durable LVAD and heart transplants. MHVI is the largest provider of cardiovascular in the Washington-Baltimore region.

The position is a dual appointment in the departments of critical care medicine and cardiology. Responsibilities include leading the multidisciplinary patient care team in both the medical and surgical cardiovascular intensive care units working with our advanced practice clinicians and graduate medical trainees. Qualified applicants will have fellowship training and be BE/BC in both critical care medicine and cardiology. Interest and expertise in other areas of cardiology such as advanced echocardiography is highly desirable.

Our faculty participate in scholarly work including translational research and participation in clinical trials with support from the highly productive MedStar Cardiovascular Research Network and collaborate with other local institutions including the National Institutes of Health. All faculty are actively involved in our academic system including teaching medical students, residents, and fellows. Academic appointments are provided in collaboration with Georgetown University.
