BUSM and BMC are seeking a candidate for the position of BUSM Chair of the Department of Surgery and BMC Surgeon-in-Chief. The next Chair/Chief will inherit an exceptional foundation for the transformation of the Department of Surgery into one that is nationally ranked and recognized for leading-edge research and exceptional clinical and surgical care. The Chair reports to the Dean of BUSM for issues relating to academic and educational performance, and to the President and CEO of BMC for clinical matters.

The Chair/Chief must be a compelling leader whose passion for the educational, clinical, research, and community-service missions energize the faculty and staff, focusing their efforts on a strategic vision of excellence in all missions. He/she must also be a prudent steward of the Department and a strategic thinker at the institutional level, providing guidance through what will be exciting change in the healthcare and social environment. Importantly, he/she must be viewed by all stakeholders as a strong advocate for balancing the academic, educational, and clinical missions of the Department, Medical School, and Medical Center and will promote a culture of accountability, high quality care, and mutual respect.
