The Cleveland Clinic is seeking a clinical chemist or clinical pathologist with subspecialty expertise in clinical chemistry to join the Professional Staff of the Department of Laboratory Medicine as Associate Director of Clinical Biochemistry, Section of Clinical Biochemistry, and CLIA Director of Laboratory Medicine, in the Robert J. Tomsich Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute. Located in Cleveland, OH, Cleveland Clinic is a world-renowned multispecialty national referral center with a mission of putting “patients first” combined with excellence in teaching and research. 

The applicant must have an MD and/or PhD and be board-certified in either Clinical Chemistry (American Board of Clinical Chemistry) or Clinical Pathology, with subspecialty certification in Chemical Pathology (American Board of Pathology) and a minimum of 10 years experience directing a clinical chemistry laboratory.  Knowledge of CLIA regulations and compliance is required.  Experience in automation, autoverification, middleware and laboratory information systems is desired. The successful candidate must have strong medical knowledge, excellent communication skills, and be able to function in a matrixed work environment. Responsibilities include clinical service, teaching and research in the Section of Clinical Biochemistry.  Oversight of a large automated clinical chemistry laboratory and clinical chemistry labs in multiple affiliated community hospitals, along with participation in other areas of clinical biochemistry services are under the purview of this position.  The incumbent also functions as the CLIA Director for the Laboratory Medicine Department which includes the automated chemistry, special chemistry, immunopathology, hematology, microbiology and molecular laboratories. Teaching of residents, medical technologists and medical technology students is expected and a research interest in cardiovascular disease is highly desired.  An academic appointment in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University is available and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
