Laboratory Quality Improvement Officer
The Cleveland Clinic is seeking a pathologist with expertise in laboratory quality improvement to join the Professional Staff of the Robert J. Tomisch Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Institute (RT-PLMI) as Quality Improvement Officer (QIO). Reporting directly to the RT- PLMI Chair, the QIO will be the recognized leader within the institute for defining, implementing and monitoring RT-PLMI’s quality improvement activities.
The applicant must have an MD and be board-certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology and knowledge of CLIA regulations and compliance is required. The successful candidate should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory quality oversight, laboratory accreditation and certification including CLIA, College of American Pathologists (CAP)), and COLA, and other pertinent organizations, such as the American Association of Blood Banks (AABB), American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) and the National Accrediting Agency for Clinical Laboratory Sciences (NAACLS) preferably in an integrated healthcare system.
The successful candidate will collaborate with the RT-PLMI Chair and Executive Director in the development of the institute’s quality structure, oversee RT-PLMI quality areas: Internal Audit and Compliance (IAC), Operational Quality, and Accreditation/Compliance/Licensure. The QIO will work with key medical and administrative leadership to define, standardize, prioritize and maintain adherence to laboratory quality and compliance with all policies & procedures across the Cleveland Clinic Healthcare System.
The QIO will also define, develop, monitor and report appropriate trended quality data, including process and outcome measures, to ensure performance meets accepted standards and identifies areas requiring improvement. The QIO will, together with the Technical director, work in collaboration with CC Quality and Patient Safety Institute, Office of Patient Experience, Nursing Quality, Regional Quality and Medical Operations to facilitate excellence in quality of care.
An academic appointment in the Cleveland Clinic Lerner College of Medicine of Case Western Reserve University is available and will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
