Facility: Providence Seward Mountain Haven

Providence Seward Mountain Haven, our ten person long-term care facility on the Kenai Peninsula, isn't your ordinary nursing home. It's a place where providers take an innovative approach to elder care. Providence Seward Mountain Haven was the first facility in Alaska to adopt the Green House model of care, which creates a new way of living in later years. Our providers facilitate access to all the quality medical services of a typical nursing facility, but in the setting of a traditional home -- with a hearth, a shared dining room and kitchen and private bedrooms and bathrooms. In Green House homes, elders are more actively involved in all facets of life, including cooking, planning menus and activities, picking furnishings and decor, and controlling their own schedule. In addition, caregivers at Seward Mountain Haven offer a different kind of support, working in the home to build strong relationships while providing for elders' health needs and personal care. With a full range of care options—from speech therapy to spiritual services—and a close relationship with Providence Seward Medical & Care Center, Seward Mountain Haven is continually finding new ways to improve health and quality of life for elders.

Alaska offers financial, cultural and recreational opportunities beyond compare, plus there is no state income or sales tax! Seward is Alaska's most popular tourist town, nearly doubling in population to 6,000 people during the summer months. And for good reason: It's just a (glorious) two-hour drive from Anchorage and sits at the head of Resurrection Bay, one of the most scenic and productive sports fishing bodies in the world. With soaring cliffs, misty forested fjords and protected ocean waters teeming with game fish, whales, sea otters, and more, Seward is iconic coastal Alaska. There's a lot to do on land, too, with a renowned sea life center, an abundance of dining choices - most offering incredible fresh seafood - frequent festivals, and hundreds of miles of hiking trails within a short drive of town.
