LOCATION: Geisinger Medical Center, Danville, PA Geisinger Health System’s Rheumatology Department is seeking a full-time board-certified rheumatologist to direct and grow our world-class rheumatology quality improvement portfolio. This position involves 50% leadership in rheumatology quality improvement projects/programs and 50% clinical rheumatology care. The quality improvement component involves Institute for Healthcare Improvement training (Improvement Advisor Professional Development Program) during the first year, unless the candidate already possesses similar training. The clinical rheumatology care component involves patient care as well as teaching of fellows, residents and medical students. The rheumatology assistant director for Quality Improvement position is based in Danville, Pa., which is the main academic rheumatology department of Geisinger Health System. This department has 7 rheumatologists, 4 fellows, 2 rheumatology nurse educators, and a highly effective co-staff team of nurses, secretaries and research and data coordinators. This position coordinates programs and projects for rheumatology across the healthcare system. Geisinger’s Rheumatology Department is nationally recognized for its innovative work in quality improvement (QI) and population management. The current QI portfolio includes programs and services designed to improve value-based care delivery for patients with rheumatic diseases — examples include population management programs in rheumatoid arthritis (AIM FARTHER), osteoporosis (HiROC) and gout. Additionally, we have developed specialized software (PACER) that works synergistically with the electronic health record to deliver care that is efficient, effective, patient-centered and of lower cost. This software also forms the basis of a world-class outcomes database containing over 100,000 unique measures of disease activity, which allows us to ask and answer the important clinical questions in rheumatology. The ideal candidate is a board-certified rheumatologist who is an excellent clinician, is patient-centered, believes in team-based care, is an innovative thinker and has a passion and interest in problem solving and quality improvement. Formalized training in quality improvement, as well as experience in quality improvement work, is preferred. Leadership training or experience preferred. Previous success in external grant/research funding and publication in peer-reviewed journals is required. This unique position would allow the right candidate to design, test, measure, implement, embed, disseminate and lead innovative programs designed to improve care delivery for thousands of rheumatology and related patients.
